Kia Ora. Welcome to Ruapehu

Carrotland Adventure Park

Come and see the world famous carrot and enjoy some time in the park and playground.

Come and visit this adventure carrot land.

At 7.5 metres tall, this is a very large model of the tasty orange vegetable and has been installed in the same spot since 1984. The biggest vegetable in New Zealand was built for a TV commercial for ANZ Bank and then donated to the town. The area is famed for its farms and carrot production.

The famous giant carrot is joined by vegetable friends Crimson King, the Superlative Swede, Sir Lancelot the Brussels sprout, Perla the Potato, and Panorama Parsnip.

The history of carrots to the Ruapehu region were introduced in the 1920s by Chinese settlers, who cleared the land by hand and explosives. Ohakune now grows two-thirds of the North Island's total crop.

New to the park is a Night Sky Panel which tells the story of the great galaxy above us.

In Summer 2023, The Ohakune Carrot was rightfully voted Landmark of the Year according to a public Nationwide vote.
